Event Date: October 1, 2017
Let's kick-off the start of the 2017-2018 First Sunday season at the Mission Inn Museum with a family-friendly celebration! 2017 is the 40th Anniversary of the Mission Inn's National Historic Landmark (NHL)designation! The National Park Service describes National Historic Landmarks as "nationally significant historic places designated by the Secretary of the Interior because they possess exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the United States."
Join us at the Mission Inn Museum to learn why historic landmarks are important to our community. We have several exciting FREE activities for families and children:
- 1:00PM - Learn from Alexandra Boiger, illustrator of the book When Jackie Saved Grand Central, with a presentation about her work as an artist illustrator as well as why Jackie Kennedy fought to save a historic landmark in her community.
- 1:30PM - Children can participate in a hands-on drawing activity led by Ms. Boiger.
- 2:00PM - Ms. Boiger will be available for questions and to sign copies of When Jackie Saved Grand Central. Copies of the book available for purchase in the Mission Inn Museum Store.
- 2:00-4:00PM - More fun historic preservation-themed activities including: 1.) Color and make your own button to wear showing your love of historic Riverside! Activity offered in partnership with UCR Gluck Fellows; 2.) Family-friendly 30-minute exterior tours of the Mission Inn led by our Youth Ambassadors at 2:15pm and 3:15pm.
